Chin implant surgery, also called chin contouring, can strengthen a weak chin and jaw line. It adds definition to the lower part of the face and can improve your profile.
If you feel that your chin is weak and out of proportion with the rest of your face, a chin implant may be right for you. An implant can augment the size and shape of your chin and bring better balance to your entire face. Chin implants are popular with both men and women.
Some people choose to have other surgical procedures at the same time as chin surgery, such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery), to further balance facial features.
The incisions for chin implants are usually made under your chin or inside your mouth so that any scarring remains hidden. The implant is placed under the skin, and the area is stitched.
Dr. Robinson always performs chin implant surgery at a fully accredited surgical facility with a board certified Anesthesiologist present to ensure your comfort. Chin implant surgery is an outpatient procedure that usually takes less than an hour to complete. You can go home the same day.
As with most surgeries, you can expect to experience some soreness, as well as bruising and swelling after your chin implant. You may also feel a tight sensation for a couple of weeks.
Most people return to work about seven days after their chin surgery, but you may need additional time off if your job is strenuous. It may take a period of weeks for all of the swelling to subside, but the results of your implant are permanent.
At your consultation, Dr. Robinson will talk with you about how you would like your chin to look. You will also see chin implant before and after photos of others who have had the same plastic surgery. Dr. Robinson will then take pictures of you to serve as your “before pictures”. After your recovery period is complete, he will take “after pictures” and give you both sets of photos. It can be exciting to compare the differences. Of course, your photos will not be shared with anyone else unless you consent.
