The mommy makeover is a customized approach for correcting the changes that pregnancies and/or time have done to your body. Sometimes, those who have had a significant weight loss will also benefit from this approach. This comprehensive set of procedures is different for each individual based on the areas of your body that you wish to improve. Typically during a mommy makeover we will address problems with the tummy (abdomen), breasts, and hips, legs, or arms. Facial rejuvenation procedures can also be added.
Pregnancies, weight changes and time all cause significant changes in the size and shape of your breasts. Breastfeeding can cause a loss of tissue that can leave breasts looking flatter and sagging. Most women who have a mommy makeover will want issues with their breasts addressed. There are several options that plastic surgeon Dr. Robinson offers to enhance or restore breasts. Breast lifts are commonly done, sometimes with augmentation at the same time. Occasionally, all that is needed is a breast implant. Breast reductions are also sometimes done with the mommy makeover.
The breast lift procedure is a great operation to repair sagging (ptosis) of the breasts. It removes excess skin allowing the breasts to sit higher and feel firmer. In addition, the nipples are raised back into a normal position and sometimes made smaller. This procedure is best in women who already have a substantial amount of breast tissue. The breast lift is a long-lasting procedure that restores a more youthful shape to the breasts.
If the breasts are ptotis (sagging) with lots of excess skin but a small amount of breast tissue, then a breast implant might also be added at the same time as a breast lift By adding a breast implant, one can achieve fuller cleavage than would be possible by doing a breast lift alone. By placing a breast implant, you get to choose the ultimate size you want to be.
Some women have had larger breasts all of their adult life. Others develop large breasts over time and with pregnancies. If heavy breasts are causing you discomfort and limit your physical activity, then a breast reduction could be the right procedure. This can also be done as part of the mommy makeover. The procedure is designed to lift your breasts as well as make them less heavy. Women notice the improvement in their neck and back pain immediately.
If your stomach area has excess fat but not a lot of extra skin, then liposuction alone could be the procedure of choice for you. This works especially well if there also is no muscle damage (called diastasis) in your abdominal muscles. Liposuction of the abdomen removes stubborn fat deposits and gives one a thinner, more shapely waistline.
However, if you do have muscle damage or a significant amount of excess skin, then one of the tummy tuck procedures might be better. Although each tummy tuck is also customized to the individual, there are basically 2 types — the mini-tummy tuck and the full tummy tuck. The mini-tummy tuck tightens skin and removes fat deposits form the belly button down to the waistline. It is best for people with small amounts of extra tissue.
The full abdominoplasty takes care of extra tissue from the ribs down to the waistline including the flank areas. This procedure tightens skin, repairs any diastasis (muscle damage) and removes fat deposits. After multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss, the full tummy tuck is often needed. Dr. Robinson includes liposuction of the abdomen with all of his tummy tucks, at no additional charge, because the final results look so much better.
Liposuction is a part of many mommy makeover procedures. There are several areas that are commonly treated by this fat removal technique. Liposuction is a permanent removal of fat cells and is useful in contouring areas of the body that are out of proportion with the rest. Frequently treated areas include the flanks/lower back, outer and inner thighs, as well as the arms and double chin region. Dr. Robinson will discuss which areas would benefit from liposuction treatment at the time of your consultation.
Because everybody is different and can choose from a variety of procedures for your mommy makeover, it is not possible to give an exact cost before your consultation. However, in general, most mommy makeovers fall in the range of $10,000 to $15,000 depending on the procedures chosen.
